The role of labels in the medical and healthcare sector
Instructional
Labels are commonly found on medication bottles and packs and provide essential information such as patient details, dosage instructions, expiration dates, and warnings.
Identification & tracking
Labels are used across the medical sector to capture information about patients, samples and tests. Barcodes or QR codes are extensively used in the medical sector for efficient tracking and inventory management
Safety & hazard communication
Labels are used to communicate important safety information and warnings in the medical sector.
Branding
Labels play a key role in making a product stand out on the shelves.
Technical Considerations
Based on our experience working with clients in this sector, these are a number of things that need to be considered when creating healthcare and medical labels:
Material
Choosing the right material for your health or medical product label is key to ensuring regulatory compliance and durability. For example, many medical sample labels will be exposed to moisture and cold temperatures and therefore a synthetic material is best.
Printing Method
The printing process used can vary depending on specific label needs such as size, variety and use. Our UV inkjet machine utilises scuff and UV resistant ink, whereas our UV Flexographic machine can apply clear overlaminate for extra protection.
Variable Data
Digital printing methods allow for variable data such as barcodes, QR codes and sequential numbers which can be important to ensure traceability
Internationally Recognised Standards
There are a number of organisations that contribute to the regulation and guidance of medical and healthcare labels.
These include the ISO and specific government policy including the Medical and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency . At Anglia Labels we work according to ISO 9001 Quality Management Standard and adhere to European guidelines ensuring none of our materials include Natural Rubber Latex.
